Corporate Conundrums and How to Fix Them: A Family Perspective

Sometimes our work family starts to behave (and misbehave) just like our home family. Borrowing some concepts from the treatment of family systems can help us identify these dysfunctional behaviors and address them directly and productively at work. It won't hurt our homelife either.

About the event

No one consults us about our birth family. However, when we accept employment we join a new family, by choice. For better or worse, corporations and their employees spend so much time together that they become a work family. Sometimes our work family starts to behave (and misbehave) just like birth families. Corporations have an outward appearance for all to see, and deep inner workings invisible to the casual observer. Sometimes this inner world is helpful, and sometimes it undermines the individual’s (or the corporation’s) success. Sometimes it does the wrong things for the right reasons.

How can we do better?

The CCCEAC is delighted to introduce February's speaker: Howard Scott Warshaw, The Silicon Valley Therapist.  In his presentation, Howard borrows concepts from the treatment of family systems to help us identify dysfunctional behaviors in the workplace so that they can be addressed directly and productively.  His insights into the inner dynamics of corporate and start-up functioning help executives surmount the challenges they face on a daily basis.

This presentation aims to reveal these machinations, empowering leaders to alleviate the ensuing stresses and issues.

During this presentation, HR leaders will learn:

  • How founders/key employees resemble a family (for better and worse)
  • How to spot the true operant dynamics (functional vs dysfunctional)
  • About the origins of behaviors that undermine our collective good
  • To progress from Org chart to Influence chart to Healthier functioning
  • What ways functional family principles can improve the functioning of our principals
